Week 2 - Becoming the person my mom feared I would be.

Everyone knows that this week is so f-ing hot. Last night, my window air conditioner brought down my bedroom temperature to 82 degrees.  This afternoon, it didn't have a chance. And with that, the 4 roommates suffered big time.  They are now doing much better thanks to some ice packs on their necks, frozen peas, and pedialyte.  This week's project suggestion comes from Alabama resident, Macey, who says I haven't experienced real heat.
Following this, I procured some emergency reflective blankets and turned them into make-shift curtains. Think of that weird car in the mall parking lot with the California Raisins sun protector.  We shall see if it is at all effective tomorrow.
Right now, I'm going to read about dead presidents with rats sitting on my shoulder with tin foil-sh covered windows. Sorry, Mom.

Official Project - Week 1 - Terrarium

This isn't an elaborate project but it is something I've wanted to learn how to do for awhile.  I asked the very friendly staff at the City Planter to show me the way and they more than obliged.   This is the terrarium I made for Pia for her birthday. It's a baby jade.  Now I have all the terrarium supplies so watch out world.

I installed 2 air conditioners.

So I thought I could install a window air conditioner by myself. It is covered now covered in blood and my clothes are ripped but it is in the window! and not working.  Can someone please help me? Please.

Not so much a crafty project, but installing a window air conditioner has proven to be one the most taxing projects I've ever done. I  installed the first air conditioner, after carrying it up 3 flights of stairs.  This did not go well. I ended up hurting myself pretty badly and it wouldn't work once it was in.  So then I returned that unit to Home Depot, thankfully with the help of JPB who carried the replacement up my steps for me.  This one was working and fine, although I blew a fuse and don't have access to the fuse box and my landlord is away for the weekend and I don't have power to my fridge.  Super.

Here are some tips for window air conditioner installation I learned and will share:

Spicy Holiday Party Cupcakes

I asked to have a party at work because I've been grumpy for like the last 3 months and our new development team raised more money than our fundraising goal so, work party tomorrow! (I am aware that's not a properly constructed sentence). Our fundraising thermometer is captioned "Spring 2010 Mailing" but for some reason Dana (new Willis, to some) thought it said Spicy Holiday and didn't question that.  So in her honor, I made these chocolate filled cinnamon cupcakes with chocolate icing and mini churros!

door stopper - first draft.

The door to my apartment is uneven leaving a pretty big gap between floor and door on the one side. This means that I come home everyday to this:
zip ties, cat toys, seals from plastic bottles, mail, bottle caps, a key, a tampon, and one time - green beans. all of these things have been slid under the door by a cat into the stairwell and usually, they want the stuff back.

Bagels!

This doesn't really count because Zach is still here but whatevs. Zach and I are making bagels! Zach is doing most of it (duh), although I actually helped! We are using this recipe.   Zach wants to make "pubic hair bagels." I want to understand how that's funny.
